“You have to keep grinding away and prove yourself worthy of playing to crowds that know and love their music, you must be in tune with what the people really want and that for me is the ultimate challenge, to please the people!”
– Craig Williams
1 ~ First Record You Ever Bought?
First record I ever bought by myself was Portrait’s Here We Go Again? Which came out on a 12′ single on the Capitol Records label, it had a red print with black writing and I still have it today. I was 14 and working in my uncles shop in Brixton and bought it from Red Records which is sadly not here anymore.
2 ~ First DJ Gig and what made you start DJing?
The person actually responsible for me wanting to DJ is my good and long term friend Lloyde who use to be part of Garage 2step record label D.E.A PROJECT and is now my colleague at Mi-Soul radio. He inspired me at a very young age to want to get into music and pursue this passion. I wasn’t always a DJ as my other talents are being a host and MC.
My first taste of spinning the 1210’s was back in 1996 at my uncle’s wine bar Porkys in Streatham. He gave more the chance to play to an older audience and I instantly loved it.
3 ~ What has been the highlight of your DJ / Production career so far?
The highlight of my DJ career thus far would have to be Southport festival 2018/2019, Mi-Biza 2017 & Margate Soul Festival 2019, all were momentous occasions for me as a DJ.
4 ~ What challenges do you face being a DJ & Producer ?
I feel the biggest challenges for me as a up and coming DJ is establishing yourself amongst so many fantastic DJ’s that you have had the privilege of working with or listening to throughout the years. You have to keep grinding away and prove yourself worthy of playing to crowds that know and love their music, you must be in tune with what the people really want and that for me is the ultimate challenge, to please the people!
5 ~ What would you want to do if you wasn’t a DJ / Producer?
I would definitely want to be a footballer or a Tennis Player to be honest!
